Purpose:

Legislative Advocacy Prep Day is a FREE, public event open to everyone in the intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) community, including individuals with I/DD, friends, parents, and advocates. We are proud to partner with Disability Rights Oregon, who will be facilitating the training.

Morning Session (9:00am-12:00pm): Attendees will gain a clear understanding of how the legislative process works and learn about important topics and bills affecting the I/DD community.

Lunch (12:00pm-1:00pm)

Afternoon Session (1:00pm-4:00pm): Refine your advocacy skills with interactive workshops. Learn how to speak effectively with lawmakers, and practice delivering short, impactful speeches tailored for legislative meetings. Attendees will also be paired with volunteers or Full Access staff to participate in mock interviews, simulating real conversations with lawmakers to build confidence.

This is not an event with lawmakers present, but rather an opportunity to give attendees the tools and practice they need to speak effectively with lawmakers in the future, whether they decide to go to Salem for an advocacy day, send emails, write letters, or engage in other advocacy efforts.

Connection to Full Access Vision:

At Full Access, a nonprofit providing case management services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), we believe in empowering our clients to lead the lives they choose and actively participate in society. Legislative Advocacy Prep Day reflects this vision, equipping the I/DD community, their families, and advocates with the tools and confidence to engage effectively in the legislative process and make their voices heard.

    Our philosophy

Respect for the right of every person to exercise control in pursuing, developing, achieving, and maintaining a quality of life consistent with their preferences and choices. Our philosophy in supporting people with developmental disabilities is that when a person needs and wants professional support, that support should be melded with natural support.
